“Afterimage” is a masterclass organized by Nancy Vansieleghem (LUCA) and Pieter Verstraete (KU Leuven), where PhD student Peter Van Goethem (a.o.) uses his own artistic practice to reflect upon making images and ways of filming in an age of omnipresent images and screens.
The general aim of the masterclass is to reflect upon and to consider making images and ways of filming in an age of omnipresent images and screens. The masterclass is organized on the occasion of the book publication Afterschool: Images, Education and Research (edited by Nancy Vansieleghem, Pieter Verstraete and Joris Vlieghe, University Press Leuven) In this book the movie Afterschool of Antonio Campos forms the focal point. The masterclass will be held in the presence of Campos himself. Besides Antonio Campos, Fien Troch, Georgia Kokot, Marc De Blieck and Peter Van Goethem are invited to discuss the work of the camera in an area of new media. The Masterclass will consist of group discussions about film material of the artists and texts. Besides an interview with Antonio Campos, a text by the French pedagogue Fernand Deligny on working with the camera will be discussed. Participants will be asked to read these texts in preparation of the Masterclass. Registered participants will receive the texts in advance.
